I am thrilled to share Eater’s Best New Restaurants for 2022! These 15 restaurants represent the best dining experiences of the year — and are sure to shape and influence America’s culinary culture in the years to come.
As Eater’s restaurant editor, this is the annual project I look forward to most. Getting the team together to research, eat, and, yes, debate which restaurants ought to have one of the coveted spots is so fun — in, you know, a totally-obsessed-with-restaurants kind of way. This year, we sent more staffers than ever on scouting trips; their travel, plus the daily work of our city editors tracking openings and all things new and hot, is why this year’s list is so expansive, with never-before-featured cities and genres making their BNR debuts. On-the-ground research is also essential for trendspotting.
My favorite trend happens to be the most thrillingly personal, as chefs across the country embrace a subversive interest in what would once have been called “fusion” cooking. At Eater’s Best New Restaurants of the year, bucatini tossed in tom yum sauce or pizza topped with vibrant green chutney aren’t gimmicks — they’re game-changers.
