Somehow, we’ve reached the unofficial end to summer. But even for those of us who mourn the loss of summer Fridays and find the promise of a chill in the air to be more ominous than anything, there is potentially much to be excited about this fall. For a glimpse, look no further than Eater’s 2022 Fall Preview — a collection of stories on the food world figures and pieces of culture that will matter this season. Among these, you’ll also find quite a few things to add to your cart — for yourself for right now, or for others later, given that gift-giving season is suddenly imminent.
To start, peruse this list of fall’s most anticipated cookbooks, including Oakland chef Tanya Holland’s California Soul, which features a foreword by Alice Walker. Then take a look at a roundup of non-cookbook food reads like Savor, the posthumous memoir from chef Fatima Ali, or The Lemon, a satire on food celebrity. And for something to buy for the hosts of any upcoming fall fetes, Punch has a list of the new spirits, liqueurs, and aromatized wines the team is most excited to drink this season. Cheers!

Although New York City’s Magnolia Bakery may have first risen to cultural relevance thanks to the cupcake, regulars know that the real star of the menu is the banana pudding. And, it would appear, skincare brand Tula knows it too — the brand has teamed up with the bakery on a banana pudding exfoliator scented like the popular dessert.
Brightland’s Lush strawberry vinegar, a collaboration with Oishii, is back in stock after selling out two previous runs.
Diaspora Co. has once again partnered with East Fork Pottery on two giftable kits. The chai kits and haldi doodh kits contain everything you need to make the respective drinks, including an East Fork mug in either pink or yellow.
In other haldi doodh news, Spicewalla has released a set of spices to make golden milk three ways: There’s the plain and simple golden milk blend with turmeric, ginger, nutmeg, and roasted coriander; chai spiced golden milk; and golden mocha, which adds Guittard cocoa to the mix.
Our Place’s newest addition to its line of “traditionware” — those limited-edition pieces that serve specific cultural food traditions — is a Shabbat set. It includes a pan that works as a stovetop griddle as well as for baking and roasting; an oven mat; a cotton challah cover-up; and beeswax candlesticks. For those keeping track, there’s a new tinned-fish brand to take under consideration: Siesta Co.
comes from an LA-based, Spanish American couple. The packaging for the five varieties of fish is particularly pretty.
