Chef to Lil Baby and Migos Opens His Downtown Atlanta Soul Food Spot

Bryant “Chef Baul” Williams, who served as a private chef to rappers like Lil Baby, 2 Chainz, Migos, and Kendrick Lamar and to filmmaker Tyler Perry, opens the first of two restaurants in downtown Atlanta this month.

Binky’s Soul Food Eatery opens Friday, April 7, across from the Five Points MARTA station in the Five Points Plaza along Broad Street. Williams calls his new downtown Atlanta restaurant a “central location for all of my clients.”

With a name honoring his father’s nickname, Williams describes his cooking style as “southern soul” infused with the flavors of Japan, the Caribbean, and countries throughout Europe. Expect dishes at Binky’s like turkey wings and oxtails, a variety of seafood, smoked turkey collards, and the chef’s popular baked mac and cheese, along with lemon pound cake and banana pudding for dessert.

Binky’s is mostly a takeout operation, but should include a few seats for those who wish to dine in after receiving their order. Williams and his wife and business partner, Daniella, are also planning to feed the community’s unhoused population at least twice a month, once the restaurant is up and running. The couple hope to open Betty Sue’s next door to Binky’s soon, serving breakfast and brunch all day. Its menu centers on grits bowls topped with oxtails, lobster, and shrimp using the chef’s personal line of grits, as well as pancakes and egg dishes.

This isn’t Williams’ first foray into restaurants in Atlanta. He opened soul food restaurant Chef’d Up at the Highland Walk Apartment complex in 2019 at the corner of Highland Avenue and Sampson Street, a space previously home to Last Word, Cast Iron, and The Barrelhouse. The restaurant closed a year later amid a rental dispute with Perennial Properties, the owner of Highland Walk Apartments. Highland Bistro replaced Chef’d Up in 2020.
