Country Star Garth Brooks to Open ‘Classic Honky-Tonk’ on Lower Broadway

In just the last year, musicians like Miranda Lambert, Justin Timberlake, and Eric Church have lent their names — and financial support — to opening bars on the iconic Broadway stretch in Music City. Now, Country Music Hall of Famer Garth Brooks will join their ranks, announcing his plans this week to bring a “classic honky tonk” to Nashville’s Lower Broadway nightlife district.

An April 5 press release confirming plans for the Brooks-themed bar and “entertainment venue” said that Brooks purchased 411 Broadway in the heart of downtown Nashville; according to the Tennessean, an LLC bought the building for $48 million in December 2021. Rumors of Brooks’s ownership followed shortly after, with Whiskey Riff reporting in March that the purchasing LLC’s agent was Cheryl Harris, Brooks’s longtime accountant and business manager. In his statement, Brooks said, “We feel very lucky to have the chance to be part of Lower Broad, which is arguably THE hottest spot in the country,” and promised that the still-unnamed venue “welcomes all and encourages love and kindness.”

Notably, 411 Broadway is next door to the soon-to-close location of the iconic Ernest Tubb Record Shop, a Nashville country music institution for more than 70 years. It was purchased two years ago by Robert’s Western World owner JesseLee Jones, according to Rolling Stone, who has now decided to sell the building. In just the two years since the pandemic began, Lower Broadway has seen a number of celebrity-backed projects, beginning with Justin Timberlake’s Twelve Thirty Club at 550 Broadway and Miranda Lambert’s Casa Rosa at ​​308 Broadway, to Eric Church’s recently announced plans for a behemoth Broadway bar that will serve Rodney Scott’s barbecue.
