Hi, Add to Cart shoppers — longtime reader, first-time writer! Monica’s on vacation, so I — Bettina Makalintal, a senior reporter here at Eater and food-themed clothing aficionado — am stepping into the sold-out Montreal Bagel Nikes to do this week’s shopping curation.
Now more than ever, as New York experiences gray day after gray day, I’ve been thinking about the concept of “dopamine dressing,” which basically means “buying things that brighten your mood,” often through bold colors or prints. Queen of color, glitter, and fringe, Dolly Parton — whose new cake mixes we covered on Eater this week in an interview with Amy McCarthy — certainly embodied this idea long before it became a social media buzzword. But this sense of filling my life with items that feel joyful extends to everything shoppable that catches my eye now: It’s not the sleek glassware or plain white plates that I’m adding to my bookmarks, but the mug with the hand-painted worm, the cocktail glass made with a seashell, the corgi candle holder, and the bread loaf planter.
To that end, this week’s Add to Cart collection puts the emphasis on new products that made me smile, from the latest it-glassware of Instagram to a sheer sausage cami from the silliest fashion brand around. Even if I don’t buy them, there’s a little thrill in saving all these silly things on Instagram — dopamine browsing, if you will. |
The latest retro glassware trend, a new line of baking mixes from Dolly Parton, and going-out tops meet meat. |

Dolly’s newly expanded line of cake mixes is heading into grocery stores nationwide, after selling out online last year.
First it was East Fork bowls, and then it was the Fredricks and Mae cutting board. The latest trendy tableware that I’m seeing all over my feeds: these wavy pastel goblets that bring a little Memphis to your martini. Add a little food art into your home with this lamp-meets-chaotic cake sculpture, now available for preorder from Jasmine Archie’s Pretty Shitty Cakes.
Food fashion queen Rachel Antonoff delivers, as usual, with a pre-spring line that includes a tomato jumpsuit, an Aperol spritz dress, and a sweater-vest with tassel-tipped carrots.
The “going-out top” is back, according to the Washington Post, but this purple silk version — a new collaboration between the meal starter brand Omsom and streetwear brand Dawang — is cooler than anything I remember from the early 2000s.
If brocade silk isn’t your style, there’s always this sausage link-printed velvet tank top from Fashion Brand Company. (Pair it with one of these necklaces from Seemore.)
The minimalists might appreciate this classic, nostalgic merch collection from a new Spam partnership with creators Ewa and Jeromy Ko of Nom Life.
Finally: If Jamvent didn’t leave you with a surplus of tiny Bonne Maman jars, consider this jam jar-turned-stash jar keychain on Depop — perfect for carrying around a sprinkle or two of Maldon. Monica’s back next week, but until then, may your online shopping be silly and bright. If you liked this email, please forward it to a friend. — Bettina
